Tommy Shearer

Tommy Shearer is a Monterey Bay, California–based mixed media artist whose work is rooted in material, memory, and the quiet, persistent beauty of transformation. As the founder of Metalistic Designs, Shearer has spent decades shaping metals, wood, custom plasters, and found objects into sculptural narratives that honor both the physical world and the emotional landscapes we navigate. His practice is deeply tactile; cutting, sawing, grinding, polishing, torching, and coaxing materials and surfaces into forms that feel alive, vibrant, and resonant.

Raised in a family of makers, Shearer learned early from his father, a master woodworker, metalworker, and welder that materials carry stories. This inheritance of craft, curiosity, and hands-on problem solving became the foundation of his studio life. Over the years, he developed a signature approach defined by texture, heat, patina, and the interplay between control and surrender.
