Life is short, do what you love. Now. It’s better to have painted badly than to have not painted at all. It is scary, but regret is scarier. That’s it, now you know my guiding principle.
As an artist, I am always learning and trying new things. I am always seeking new ways to express ideas and images. As part of my art practice, I regularly paint outdoors. Composing and painting a scene on site, or en plein air, is a challenge and so rewarding. The shifting light requires one’s full attention. It’s entirely absorbing and oddly meditative, and brings both beauty and joy into my life. When I’m not painting outdoors, I’m often either painting a still life with fruit and flowers from our garden, or working on something a bit larger and a bit more conceptual. Most of my studio paintings are based on my own, on location sketches, photographs or painted studies.
